So instead of a relatively impersonal gift, my wife requested a
home-cooked meal from our kid (with my help, of course) as a way of
heading off commercial pressures. I successfully taught the boy how to
poach an egg, but making hollandaise sauce will be a skill best left for
    a later date.

TV Repair (RL) - On Saturday my 4k TV decided that three out of the four
HDMI inputs would no longer produce a colour image. My initial
troubleshooting was focused on determining if the Raspberry Pi video
streaming doodad had failed hardware or bad cabling, only to discover
that the Sexbox and the PS3 were both producing similar images.
Strangely the PS5 connection was fine, but I ended the morning
completely worn out and discovering that it was an HDCP problem. You see
I allow the TV onto my home network but I block it from reaching the
Internet, for it is a Roku device which is continuously attempting to advertise to me in ways that would justify homicide were a human being
to attempt to sell with the same level of vigour or enthusiasm. An
update corrected the issue without any other change, and more than one
person has suggested that this is an intentional and punitive function
of the Roku software. I struggle to counter that supposition.

Mobile migration (RL) - Picked up a Sony Xperia 10 VII earlier in the
week. Ordered from Hong Kong through a Canadian reseller because this
phone is officially not for sale in my region and the carriers I have available to me are whinging that I can't take advantage of all the 5G
network functions with it. No matter, because the only feature I care
about on a mobile phone is whether or not it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack
for wired headphones, and this one does. I'll happily hang out here on
the LTE portion of the spectrum with the cheapskates and the pensioners
and have the best phone on that part of the network. My previous phone
was a Sony Xperia 5 III, and if you think this branding and model differentiation is cack then you are right. It was relatively simple to
move everything over because I did it *manually* with config files and
JSON export and a SD card.

To have played some games - Someone out there is going to tell me that
my peculiar use cases created less convenience in exchange for only meaningless moral advantages, and while this may be true I'm not able to imagine a scenario where I *would* let my TV talk to the Internet or
where I *would* trust a high street mobile shop to move my SMS messages
    and call history for me.

    Nothing game-related

-KKC, who wonders when Sony will re-enter the American mobile market.

Then after many years, the greatest of culinary challenges may finally
be tackled, the final rite of passage - making the microwave go ping.
Of which I'm a past master, if I say so myself.

    Play:

Lego City Undercover (PC) - free pigs and run cannons, or something
like that. It had slipped my mind that I didn't have Liberty Island
unlocked, and I was only gently reminded of this by randomly using the
teleport pad which takes you there. Which then allowed me to unlock
the ferry service from/to the island, which is an extremely sensible
order in which to have done things. The island is hilarious in a way,
because it's pretty small but still stubbornly features an instance of
most activities that usually appear in each sandbox region. So it ends
up being like a kind of absurd busywork fruitcake. As do I.

    Want:

    Nothing.

    Bin:

Insufficient comedy pig content in most games. Though this line of
thought leads inevitably to Angry Birds, which is rarely a good sign.
