I like that all the Americans who wandered over to Hungary to try and influence the election were also men who try to hide their chinlessness
    with poorly maintained beards.

    Play:
    --=--

Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PC) - I keep meaning to come back to this and I
keep playing it wrong. I should be rushing from main story mission to
main story mission, but I'm just sauntering along at a walking pace
enjoying the scenery of Ijincho and casually levelling up instead of strategically grinding levels. The first two times I played on PS4 and
PS5 I did so with the Japanese language audio, so this time around I'm enjoying the English voice cast, which is honestly a much better
experience than you'd think it would be. It helps that a lot of the cast
are actually Asian people who know how to move their heads around the
funny Japanese pronunciation of certain words and phrases. I'm closing
in on the sad ending of Chapter 3 now, which as I recall involves a bit
of stealth and a bit of combat.

Phantasy Star Online ver 2 (DC) - Bit more of this. Beat the dragon
lurking inside the municipal dome of the residential area with a level 5 Fomarl and only level 1 spells, which either means I know what I'm doing
or that I have really good muscle memory for all this nonsense. With
access to save states I'm going to try something I've always wondered
about, which is to do a single continuous run through of all the game
areas to see if it respawns enemies after you get to the point in the narrative where you get the instructions to activate the big glowing
obelisk things in order to unlock the final dungeon area. That sounds
like a good use of rapidly diminishing hours on Earth.

    Want:
    --=--

Moar Wizardry (PC) - Wizardry 6, 7, and 8 are part of my Steam library
and are also available at GoG, and in both cases they're the unadorned
(and arguably otherwise perfect) original PC versions. I'm not sure what
the barrier is to having the first five games available in the same way, unless it is that there are IP rights tied up in all the usual nonsense negotiation. I'm not a fan of how the latest crop of Wizardry games are
super buggy and overly mercantile. I don't mean the Mad Overlord remake
(which is largely fine) but something new called Wizardry Variants
Daphne, which sells itself as a deep narrative experience but is somehow
just a cheap gacha that steers you constantly towards microtransactions.
I hate thinking that video games were at one point trending towards
becoming media on par with theatre and cinema and have now somehow just
    become another tasteless vending machine.

    Bin:
    -==-

Game reviews - I read a review of an RPG where the player experienced
the game for 20 minutes and saw fit to complain about the presence of
Black faces in the character generator. I'm sick of racists and bigots
leaving their greasy fingerprints on my hobby and I'm doubly sick of the humour-impaired wags who think that it's entertaining to listen to them.
I cannot wait for the pendulum to start falling in the other direction
again to make it not just possible, but necessary, for all these cretins
to be shouted down regularly and with no restraint.

    -KKC, who needs more sleep.

    Play:

NBA Jam (MD) - randomly played several games on this. I can neither
confirm nor deny it being the shoes.

Sega Rally (Saturn) - again with the championship, again with the
making it but just barely. I'm not sure whether to feel good or bad
about having done it half a second faster in that context.

Super Mario World (SNES) - one more exit added, by clearing Castle 7.

Space Invaders (2600) - obviously I had to give this a quick go or two
after mentioning it recently. My UFO-hitting game is on top form, just
not so much that pesky survival thing.

    Nothing.

For some reason I was expecting this to be a Dragon's Lair crossover.

Realising that I didn't initially play any of this week's games until
about five years after they were released. Or ten for Sega Rally. And
maybe 15 for Space Invaders (on the Atari, at least). So as much as I
tend to think of my fairly excessive playing of old games as a more
recent thing, that in itself may be old. :-)
