Yakuza 5 Remastered (PS4) - Saejima's learning to hunt! I remember that
there were some decent combat bonuses and levelling opportunities that presented themselves if you were brave enough to settle the business
with Yamaoroshi The Giant Bear (tm)(C) before going off to connect back
to the main narrative, so that's where I'm headed next. Somehow I made
it through to the end of the snowmobile ride without losing all my HP
like I did in the original PS3 release, and I'm not 100 percent sure
that the revised game doesn't somehow make that segment easier.
Phantasy Star Online ver 2 (DC) - I'm actually playing on a little
Chinese emulation box, the Powkiddy RGB20 Pro. Believe it or not this is
my first device of this time, as I've always been sceptical of both
their function and durability. Apparently this thing is well-regarded
enough that I was willing to take a chance. The Dreamcast emulation
isn't great, but for this particular game it's more than enough to
fulfill the 25 year old ambition of portable PSO that the other titles
in the series have never fully realised. As per usual I've got a Fomarl
up to level 5 through repeated grinding of the forest level, and I need
to beat the Dragon at some point so I can unlock the Mines and get to levelling properly.
Sega Rally (Saturn) - revisiting a disturbingly recent game again. I
think what I like about the arcadey rallying approach over that of
supposedly "proper" rally games with silly stuff like more tracks and
longer championships and car damage is that, in retrospect, Sega Rally
seems like a kind of Burnout 3 of rallying - you aren't going to be
falling off the side of a mountain here, as there's only so far you
can drift away from the track, so to speak. If only you could do
takedowns of those stubbornly on-rails CPU cars.
I went to great lengths to pick up the PS2 release of this edition of
Sega Rally, which is annoying packed-in only with the JPN-region game
from 2006. You do see the discs separately on the aftermarket but I
think it's worth chasing down the whole package (in whatever method you
find acceptable) to experience the best possible home edition.
Want:
The Legend of Heroes Trails To Azure (PS5) - This is the the one current Trails game that I don't already own, so I drunkenly put in an order
over the long weekend.
R-type Command I + II (PS5) - Also for this. The June release date
(after several 2025 delays) seems to be holding, so that's paid for and
on the way now too.
Bin:
Nothing gaming-related.
-KKC, who feels like he has too much to do this week.
