Well my whole weekend was eaten up with gardening and parenting. How was yours?
I suppose I did see more greenery than usual, and told a precocious ten-year-old exactly where to go. Or more specifically...
Play:
Psychonauts 2 (PC) - it's been nearly two decades since I played
Psychonauts on the PS2, so I'd struggle to say how well this works as
a very belated sequel (that I got to pretty belatedly myself). My
memory of the original is largely limited to Milkman Conspiracy and
Meat Circus at this point. :-) But just taking the sequel primarily as
an eccentric platformer, it's doing decently well so far I think. What
I've been finding slightly annoying is the bosses and the combat, for
me the difficulty in those areas tends to be a bit higher than I'd
like.
It wasn't clear how badly this would run on my mini PC, as probably
the newest game I've run on it so far - it's actually not that bad
considering. Mostly it's fine in 720p on Low settings (a step up on
Very Low at least) which defaults to a curious 65% scale, so with the
3D stuff rendering at just 832x468. It only seems to get more
questionable in the Questionable Area, appropriately enough?
Amplitude (PS3) - finally got that last bonus track unlocked,
predictably needing to drop back down to Intermediate to get it.
Want:
Nothing.
It's a good thing that they keep re-releasing these games so that I
can keep buying them to not play them.
Similarly, I bought Psychonauts for PC knowing that I probably
wouldn't play it before the sequel and might not play it after.
Bin:
Psychonauts 2 sometimes giving you green health pickup thingies (e.g.
during some boss battles) which when triggered will be unusable,
because they'll just immediately fall off the level even if you have
the attract-pickups pin equipped.
The vomit-centric boss fight in Psychonauts 2. That sort of thing
doesn't usually get to me too much, but having taken a few retries
after running out of the health items you can carry, I wasn't too far
from needing a long break from the game and/or a sick bag.
