• Gutter/Downpipe

I've got a problem with one of my aluminium gutters - the standard 68mm PVC downpipe has detached from the gutter. I've bought a fitting which I think should work (Gutter Spigot Outlet):

    https://www.virtualplastics.co.uk/collections/gutter-and-downpipe/products/r400-universal-hunter-uni-fit-gutter-spigot-outlet

However, it looks like at least part of the problem is that the roofer (or someone) driiled a too big a hole, and the fitting will just drop through:

    https://photos.icloud.com/shared/album/06aH-SmkCZakRmWFANDMIpi7w

Of course, I can't be sure until I'm up there. But I want to be prepared for the eventuality.

So, what's the best method of making good the hole if it's too big, so it fits the c.55mm spigot?

    TIA

Rivet an alu plate with a smaller hole over it?

    +1

Or use epoxy to fix the plate to the gutter (after cutting the spigot
hole in the plate while it's at ground level, of course!).

Yes, thanks, that'd do it. I had thought about cutting up a biscuit tin as I don't have any alu sheet to hand. But I'd guess that would react in some way, or rust?

Now, what can I canabalise to get a bit of c.85 x 85mm 2mm sheet aluminium? Or where to buy a bit?

Think it's best to see if it's actually needed first . . .

Biscuits seem to come in plastic or paper boxes these days - along with Quality Street / Roses / etc

If you can find a "tin" then its likely to rust a a rate of knots ...

You could cut up a beer can etc
Or buy from a model shop online.

Or Ebay. Or RS components., Or in fact just about anywhere

Car boot sale. Does anyone have ally saucepans any more? I thought the dementia scare put pay to that..

Anyway, I'd 3D print an adapter plate in ABS...

Timber gutters use lead funnels to feed the water down the down spout you
might be able to use the flange to narrow the hole.

    Hmm. Rarely flat.

What about your nearest scrap metal yard or perhaps the local waste
site? The operators may be amenable to you taking an item away for
re-use. ISTR a TV program based on just that. I think she was
intercepting stuff prior to the actual bin though.

Might do it but it'd result in a bit too much of a 'lip'. I do have some lead sheet left over somewhere but I think it'd be a bit thick.
