And, like the puritans later, they (or rather their leaders) wanted to
be the ones doing the oppressing. They weren't blowing up the king to replace him with democracy and freedom of religion.
Hopefully schools will teach the background of religious oppression by
both catholic and protestant rulers, along with the general evils of
absolute monarchy.
