Every so often - once an hour or so - I get a message telling me that "the server cannot be found" and furthermore, afp connections are no longer supported...
I cannot seem to find the culprit. My NAS is connecting fine and I had thought
that there must be something in the startup items that was causing this but I
can't see anything.
Any thoughts?

This is macOS telling you that AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) is no longer supportedrCoand itrCOs been fully removed since macOS Big Sur. The hourly message appears because something on your Mac (most likely Time Machine
or a mounted network drive) keeps trying to reconnect using the old AFP protocol.

The actual message is:-
"There was a problem connecting to the server"
"URLs with the type "afp:" are not supported"

Had to resort to Terminal to trace the request and then ferret about to find the culprit.
That's 90 minutes I'll never see again...

Back to the drawing board.
Or so I thought...
It was there when I woke the MacBook this morning so, after dismissing it, I set up a trace with Terminal determined to track it down and, so far today, nothing...
