Well, it would seem the past is finally catching up. I can, unfortunately, remember them costing that when they first appeared; back when two grand was worth having...

Wasn't in the market in those days. I remember being shocked when iphone

Of course, I notice that if you really wanted to push the boat out, you can spec it up to over 3 grand. I wonder how many of those will sell?

All I wanted was an updated Apple TV...

Is that too much to ask?

Most of my kit is old, though my iPhone did recently need replacement as
    ran out of space essentially.

But still using 2012 mini SararCOs old MacBook Air IrCOve taken over and is feels to me at least quick!

My iPad is definitely getting a bit sluggish on CPU intensive stuff, but
not enough to warrant the cost, itrCOs from just before COVID I think.

I'm all for stretching out the useful life of everything, I'm still using an iPhone XR although that's getting to the point where an upgrade is required, maybe a 17 when they finally release the bog standard 18.
The Apple TV I have is a 2014 model which is limited by not being able to load apps or update the OS. I really need something more up to date but am loath to buy the present version when, as we all know, something new will come out tomorrow...

I got both my Apple TVs from CEX, a few years ago now. One is the last HD
model and the other is the first 4K model. They both work just fine, both
on the latest OS. To be fair, apart from a few settings differences, and theyrCOre plugged into different TVs, itrCOs hard to tell which one IrCOm using just by looking at the main screen, and running shows.

Unless apps start playing up, or not working, I canrCOt see much reason to change them yet.

In terms of usability, speed and stability, they both completely outdo the
Sky Stream stuff (new Glass TV and Stream box).

The only bit IrCOd want to change is the old touch panel remotes - they can
    be fiddly.

I've recently started using an iPhone 5s and a first gen SE. They're tiny
:-) Lots of apps won't install but I've managed to get those that I need.
I also jailbroke the 5s which was useful to declutter the camera app - I just need photos and videos, no slo-mo or portrait or panaroma etc and there was
    a jailbreak mod for that.

Video quality of the SE is pretty good at 4K, the 5s is only 1080p but still quite decent.

just before Apple hiked the prices, which turned out to be a good buy.

Have two Apple TV 4K one is 1st generation other is 2/3 probably 2nd generation. Both are fully supported and work fine, as did the iPhone SE
2nd generation but was only 64GB and battery was getting weak, so I was
having to offload stuff and generally mess about.

The new one is just invisible ie has space and enough battery life so I
only charge every few days, IrCOm generally not that keen or use my phone
that much I generally buy upfront and replace as and when, the last phone
had probably a shorter life than normal for me.

I just got stitched by that too. Bought the Mini M4 a month or so ago,
the refurb was -u179 more than the new one was.

Unfortunately the timing was just bad, but I only had the small window
of opportunity to afford it anyway.

The volatility of pricing at the moment has made purchase decision
    making very difficult.

One slight reassurance is that CEX are selling a 'B' grade iPhone 17e
for -u99 less than the new one was. I can live with that.

I seemed to have beaten the price hike but the M5 MBA still strectched my initial budget but I do appreciate the larger 15" screen and faster performance over my other Macs.
I decided against another laptop/portable in the end. My old iPad Pro
(2020) is still functioning OK, albeit without the new AI fancy stuff
(not necessarily a bad thing!). But with it suffering a USB-C port
failure, and the battery getting to 80% before it was changed under
AppleCare last year, it's made me decide I want to minimise my reliance
on battery power as much as possible.

Even a larger MB screen isn't really enough for my ageing eyesight, so a
27" on the Mini is much nicer for me. And the cost of going portable
    now, is becoming prohibitive.

But yeah, the refurb was way more than I expected to pay, but I hope
it'll future proof me for a little while.

All very nice but, no new Apple TV :-(

Am I the only one thinking that an iPhone "uno" i.e. the form factor of
the closed duo but with just a single screen and no fold would be a nice
    phone?

    Isn't that the iphone Air?

Not really. The Air is 156h x 75w x 5.7d mm while the Duo, folded, is
    117h x 84w x 11.3d so wider and less tall.

Especially if it still had the two batteries.

The Air has a spare battery option.

Apple has stopped doing that one, officially. There are others of course.

Indeed. I've been watching the price of iPhone 17's. Last Thursday you could buy one for -u710 (best price I could find) yet today it's -u779 as the price increases trickle through.

Best price I could find new on the 17e was -u599 Toady.

However, they are selling a 17 256gb for -u750, which, considering it's second hand I felt was a little steep. Prices might settle down over the next few weeks or we may have to wait until January.

ThatrCOs what I paid four ours (I bought two, both wife and myself were in
need of replacements). I got mine from JL, getting their two year warranty, rather than forking out more for AppleCare on them.

Yeah, I was amazed at second hand/refurb prices across the board (CEX were
more expensive for the M4 Mini used, than it was refurbed from Apple) - strangely the 16 models were more expensive in some cases.

I donrCOt think buying when I did was actually that bad in timing - indeed,
it seems I may have got it right for once! ;-)

The prices don't make sense. There's M2 Airs on the Apple Refurb store for -u1269, admittedly with 1TB storage, where a new M5 Air is -u1299 (with
    512GB).

Yes the refurb price is a big saving on the original price with the
upgrades, but doesn't align with the current market prices.

It's not really the original price though is it? The refurbished products would, originally, have sold for less than the currant market price, i.e. before the increases, but Apple are pitching them against the post increase prices.

The base M2 Air came with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage for -u1249. The refurbed models are all minimum 16GB and 512GB - to match the current base
requirements for macOS - so maybe equivalent to -u1749 at original prices.
1TB would have been the best part of two grand.
