I am pleased to report that a new J794 MIB2 head unit arrived from
London just after noon today.
I fitted it into my car and switched it on - in perfect time to hear the
1 o'clock news! Everything I've so far checked works just as I believe
is intended.
We're off on our road trip to East Kent tomorrow, so don't expect to
hear much more from me for a week or so!
Many thanks to all the folk here who tried to help me. Efye
Kind regards,
David.
Well, home again now, having completed 567.9 miles - most of it in
really heavy traffic. Exhausting, that's for sure! The M27 and M25 were
like a racetrack too!
The Satnav made a few minor errors with directions and sometimes
indicated a max speed of 60 mph when, in reality, the max speed is now
50 mph.
Discussion today with the boss of the repair company indicated that VW
didn't renew their SatNav licence with the provider in 2023, so all VW
maps are "out-of-date"! He recommended that I use Apple CarPlay instead, something with which I've not been familiar. Over the weekend my son,
who stayed in the same accommodation with us, showed me how it works!
I have also now settled my bill today - -u1293.00 (Instead of the
dealer's quote of over -u3000 +fitting costs!) I made a direct transfer
of funds by our Bacs.

I only felt it worth doing as the vehicle has only got 18,946 miles on
the clock, in spite of its age. Any part-exchange value would be
severely reduced with a non-functioning Infotainment system.
