Hi:
When I open the Phone app on my MacBook, the window is ridiculously large - far wider than it needs to be.
Is there a way to force it to be the size I like? Most apps remember the size of the last closed window, but Phone seems not to do this.

While macOS doesn't allow standard edge-dragging for the iPhone / Phone
app window, Apple built dedicated size presets into the menu bar.
You can cycle through these preset sizes or set your preferred size
using keyboard shortcuts: Smaller: Press Cmd + - (or select View raA
Smaller from the top menu bar)
Actual Size: Press Cmd + 0 (or select View raA Actual Size) Larger: Press Cmd + + (or select View raA Larger)
Persistent Size Settings
If the window continues reverting to an oversized default state every
time it opens:Launch the app and set your target size using Cmd + - or
Cmd + 0.
Quit the app completely using Cmd + Q rather than merely closing the
window. If macOS fails to retain the window geometry state across
launches, flush the apprCOs saved state cache via Terminal:
Bashdefaults delete com.apple.ScreenContinuity
(Relaunching the app after purging the plist will write a fresh
preference state).

You're splitting hairs without checking how macOS Sequoia actually
works, Michael.
macOS doesn't have a native "Phone" app.
Calls on the Mac are handled--
via FaceTime/Contacts relay, orrConew to SequoiarCovia iPhone Mirroring, which streams the iPhone's actual Phone app to the desktop.
The window scaling shortcuts (Cmd + - / Cmd + +) and the com.apple.ScreenContinuity reset are specifically designed for scaling
those mirrored iOS app frames when they default to an oversized state.
The solution directly addresses Martin's issue.

The actual fix for Martin's oversized window remains identical: scaling

Michael,
Replicating the bug is the easy partrCothat's the exact issue Martin
posted about.
The reason resizing and quitting normally via Cmd + Q fails on its own
is that AppKit's saved application state (~/Library/Saved Application
State/) or the cached .plist key in cfprefsd has become stuck or
corrupted.
When that happens, macOS ignores the newly adjusted window
geometry upon closing and reloads the old, oversized coordinates from
the cached state file on the next launch.
That is precisely why clearing the state cache via Terminal (defaults
delete ...) is required first: it purges the corrupted baseline so macOS
is forced to write and retain the new window dimensions upon quitting.
=--
Do you disagree?

He was asking about the Phone app, not iPhone mirroring.
You're splitting hairs without checking how macOS Sequoia actually
works, Michael.
macOS doesn't have a native "Phone" app.
Odd. Apple says it does and my machine has it:

Just ignore David. All he does is ask whatever AI of the month he is
using, and mindlessly pastes the results here. Trying to pretend that he >>> understands the question AND the answer.
Of course, he understands neither. Nor does he understand the fact that >>> if the OP wanted an AI answer, he/she could have asked for it instead of >>> posting here. PERHAPS he/she wants a human response.
I know and like David... but, yes, his use of AI is... uninformed.
Sadly, Gemini has been misleading me - and has now apologised!

As IrCOm getting this problem on both Tahoe and GG beta, IrCOve submitted a bug

I don't use the Phone app on macOS myself, but gave it a try out. Yeah,
does the same here too.
However, on my Mac Mini on 4K set to 1440, it looks an OK size.

You got me, Michael! I was thinking of older macOS versions where calls >>>> were routed strictly through FaceTime or iPhone Mirroring, before Tahoe >>>> introduced the standalone Phone app.
Sorry about that!
The actual fix for Martin's oversized window remains identical: scaling >>>> the window size down with Cmd + - or adjusting the app settings so it
saves the preferred dimensions upon quitting.
Except it does not save it. That is the issue. I have replicated the issue. >>
Michael,
Replicating the bug is the easy partrCothat's the exact issue Martin
posted about.
There seems no easy fix. It is just how the app is designed.
The reason resizing and quitting normally via Cmd + Q fails on its own
is that AppKit's saved application state (~/Library/Saved Application
State/) or the cached .plist key in cfprefsd has become stuck or
corrupted.
No. If that was the case it would not be seen on so many systems. It is a design issue.
Your advice is completely wrong.
Hi:
When I open the Phone app on my MacBook, the window is
ridiculously large - far wider than it needs to be.
Is there a way to force it to be the size I like? Most apps
remember the size of the last closed window, but Phone
seems not to do this.

I've just noticed that on my 13" M1 MBA if I drag the window as small as it will
go, its size and position stick after a quit and relaunch. Whether the size is
usable remains to be seen! The MBA is running Tahoe 26.6.2.

Me neither, but itrCOs totaly worth it for the one full day a year I spend on the phone to insurance companies negotiating a new premium.
