• Usenapp Intel Code Support

    From Alan B@alanrichardbarker@gmail.com.invalid to uk.comp.sys.mac on Sun May 17 07:40:01 2026

If you are using Usenapp on a Tahoe system you may have received a warning
that this software will not start on future releases of MacOS. But thererCOs no need to panic, Mr. Mainwaring!

This is occurring because Usenapp currently contains code for both ARM and Intel based macOS systems. Future macOS systems will soon end Intel support
and Usenapp will then be split into two separate apps - one for ARM based
macOS systems, the other for Intel based macOS systems.

Andr|- has explained this on the Support Forum.

I may have to switch to it - Hogwasher still Intel only and the last Intel-only app I have (well, last non-gaming ones). Do hope an update gets
put out for the App Store version which I have.

Have you tried contacting Asar to ask if they intend to bring out an ARM version? In the dim and distant past when I used Hogwasher a lot, they
were always quick to respond to bug reports and general queries.

I did a few years ago and they said in a couple of months. Asked again a few months later, but donrCOt remember seeing a reply (that may be on me though, possible they did but IrCOve misremembered now). But yes - itrCOs been a few years.

I might take a look. IrCOve semi got a grudge against Thunderbird, after I tried to contribute code to it and was met with some of the most unfriendly people IrCOve dealt with. But that was quite some time ago now, close to the start of OS X I believe since I seem to remember I was trying to import a vcf file containing multiple contacts and it couldnrCOt cope at the time. I started to write a change then found an area of code in a completely
different area to the main import bit and that code seemed like it could do it, but had no UI. I tried to find out more but...nope. I should just know
    it, apparently.

Sod rCyem. At that point anyway. No idea if itrCOs the same people now.

I don't think you would be disappointed with Usenapp. It's written
specifically for the Mac supporting multiple servers, has excallent filtering, advanced searching, actively supported etc. etc. OK it's not free but definitely worth every penny. You can run it on a trial basis for a while too. If you really want something free you can always use emacs/gnus or build the likes of pan, slrn, tin etc. from source. I'm not keen on Thunderbird for various reasons.

    Thanks for that, Ian.

The decision is, of course, yours!

Are you not just a teen weeny bit concerned that the developer of the
product is a completely unknown quantity?

He banned me from his forum for simply questioning his integrity!

Of course the UNIXy clients can be installed using MacPorts or Homebrew
and with WINE you could install some Windoze only clients if you really
    wanted to or use VMs!
