I don't quite get the argument for this over Pages.
Am fully embedded in the MS ecosystem for work and libreoffice fulfills all my domestic needs.
I would totally support an independent developer, but -u15 with no trial period feels a little scammy.

To be honest, do we really need another one now?
Personally I use Pages mostly, and occasionally Notes, they certainly are more than enough for my domestic needs. TheyrCOre free and already installed, and quite capable.
If I need something different/better/etc. I might try LibreOffice, or on my iPad Pro, Collabora Office.

No. I even do not use, no even not tried the proprietary Apple crap.
FOSS is key.

LO since it exists and nothing else because it is FOSS and respects all standards what all others more or less don't.

That's a much better response, and understood that there is a need
there. I get that. I have also sometimes looked into multi-platform
software solutions, and for sure, you generally have to look to FOSS
most of the time, although not always.
More recently though I have abandoned my research into using Linux, as
there are no simple, or acceptable, solutions to some of the major
features I need myself. Although one day, perhaps, financial constraints
may force the issue.
Windows I have never intended to use as my primary system. I have to use
it in my work envirnment, but that's all.

I teach Windows for a non-profit organisation. Privately I use macOS
most of the time and as fall back I have two Linux laptops which are
always at the same level as the Macs. I still believe that macOS is the
most stable and optically the most attractive OS. A Linux Ubuntu running Wayland comes very close on my 27" Dell screen.
The FOSS software I use most is Firefox, Thunderbird and Libre Office
on all systems.

Another CSAM-desaster by Apple would be the end of macOS for me. What I
also would never accept is that Apple - like in the UK - hast to stop E2E-encryption of iCloud (most of it) because the government is
blackmailing Apple to open backdoors. The UK-situation is not acceptable
for a Democracy.

CanrCOt argue with that. ItrCOs been my experience in general (although not always). For sure, they donrCOt get everything right, but I think they get more right than most others do.
However, getting back to the topic, I do find that if you have an Apple
based ecosystem, particularly with modest needs (personal use), then the Apple apps are more than adequate.
I did have that myself for a while. It was OK, a bit industrial in design, but I liked that - similarly with Eudora and MacSOUP, and going back a few more years, I still miss ArnorrCOs Protext on my old Atari ST. Come to that, I still miss the old Claris/AppleWorks.

I really miss some of the great apps that were created for BeOS back when that
was a thing. The real positive was that Be was a gateway that led me to MacOS and that worked out very well.

Wondering whether AI could rebuild those old apps for Silicon/Mac OS? Might be
a goer, especially if the source code is available.

Some original apps can still be obtained and run under emulation via, say, BasiliskII or SheepShaver but may not be able to open and save documents in more recent file formats. See:-
<https://macintoshgarden.org/guides>
<https://www.macintoshrepository.org>
Incidentally LibreOffice can open MacWrite formatted documents.

I'm still using Claris Works 4.0 every day. Writing magazine articles, drawing circuit diagrams, giving slideshows, doing my accounts,
addressing envelopes, even drawing Christmas cards - with Pub&Sub to
link it all together.
From the Print command I can create PDFs that can be read on any
computer (unlike modern files with .pdf file extensions, which are so
full of 'extras' that they are no longer cross-platform).
I can export
in RTF and dozens of other formats. I can import JPEGs, GIFs and PICTs.
There is nothing like it available for OSX.
