IrCOve been puzzling about it ever since it appeared, but am no nearer.

What is the new Preview icon supposed to represent?

It look to me more like an empty jar than anything - perhaps an old
fashioned paste pot with a hone for the brush?

It's a viewing lens, I have one on the desk next to me. The clear
plastic sides allow the light in to whatever you are examining.

    That is correct!

Thank you. All is clear. Excet that a quick amateurish search on Google

I've seen them used by photographers to look over contact sheets.

BTW, just went to open it and got a Finder window with 'User' highlighted. Without thinking I hit 'Open' and suddently got 169 PDFs opening up! Was that the same behaviour as before??

Is about the nearesst to the Preview icon.

That's the one I have, except mine is branded Agfa.

    Well spotted, OJ! Efya

I do not have such a device, just old-fashioned magnifying glasses!

In recent times though, when trying to 'read' microscopic items, I've
taken to using my iPhone to take a photograph of same and then view on
    my 27 inch screen!

Thank you. All is clear. Excet that a quick amateurish search on Google
    doesn't find one.

Google is no longer your friend, simply a data harvesting/money grabbing
    machine...

I have one of these. As an experiment a while back, I stuck it to the back of my iPhone 6s & took some close-up pictures of flowers. They came out nicely! <https://postimg.cc/yJSB1RV0>

You are, indeed, a very clever fellow!

Yesterday afternoon I was giving basic instruction on iPad use to a
nearby widow aged 93. Although somewhat frail, she's a bright as a button!
