If it operates as a bridge between the three networks, that is
possible (lots of WAPs work that way).
I have rescued from the vault an Edimax WiFi Extender. It will be
perfect for connecting a Humax upstairs to the downstairs network.

This does not sound correct. Surely it should have different
addresses for each of these different paths?
I think a Reset and reconfigure is in order, with three different
addresses.
