I need some help thinking through whether to use my QNAP TS451+ NAS or
instead use my HP Microserver Gen8 as a central (mainly multimedia) server.

The QNAP has a 4 core Celeron 1.9 GHz and 8 GB RAM, the Gen8 a 2 core Xeon
2.2 GHz and 16 GB DDR3. The QNAP has 4 x 4 TB Iron Wolf in RAID 6, not
sure whether I would use RAID or individual drives on the Gen8 (advice Welcome).

I have had to re-shuffle my storage because my multimedia has topped 3 TB
and I am struggling with a sensible back up process. I have managed to
spit the backups into 3 groups and have the capacity to back each group up twice to my Windows backup PC and once to an external USB3 DAS.

What makes me ask is the time it is taking to load up the QNAP. 2 TB over
the network was estimated at 27 hours but ended up doing it in 16.

I now have to load 2 x groups of just over 1 TB each. I plugged the DAS
into the QNAP (USB3) and it it estimating 11 hours to copy it. I wouldn't worry but at my age I don't tend to plan much after the end of the next
week and I may still be loading up the QNAP at this rate!

Ideas appreciated pros/cons/do something completely different :-)
