The title of the article is stupid since humans are animals. "Are
dolphins the only animals that call each other by name?" My guess is
that they aren't the only other mammals that call each other by name.
Once we figure out elephant infrasound communication we will likely find
out that they know each other by name. Elephants may be ahead of chimps
in that regard. Chimps can obviously name things, but we haven't
figured out if they communicate in that way in their natural groups.
How do they organize for war or hunting. It isn't just Bee pee wee
soccer where the kids start off swarming like bees around the ball.
Chimps have flankers and strikers.
Likely the most important thing is to understand that dolphins have to
be self aware. They know their own names, and they know that other
dolphins are self aware individuals. They understand that others can
respond to their communications.
