This year the US military suspended mandatory influenza vaccination.
They have experienced a high incidence of influenza infections at a
couple military bases, and they reimplemented vaccination, but one
    trainee has died from influenza.

The anti-vaccination stupidity has been demonstrated by the flu and
measles. Even though the current flu vaccine missed the virus (K
strain) causing most of the infections this year the data indicates that
it still significantly reduces mortality compared to unvaccinated. It
doesn't do a good job of keeping you from being infected, but it seems
to have enough protection to keep you from developing serious symptoms.

The stupidity about the influenza vaccine is crazy since over 40,000 US soldiers died of the "Spanish flu" that started in the midwest during
WWI. The claim is that more US soldiers died of the flu than died in
battle. Influenza is known to do very well in the population dense
    military bases.
