20 individuals (juveniles and adults) were tested for sex
differentiating tooth proteins and all of them were found to be female, replicated in two different labs.
It is thought that H. naledi used fire, and burried their dead with a
brain size of that of an Australopithicine. There is evidence that they
made rock engravings in this cave. A brain size between that of Homo
habilis and a chimps. It has been proposed that the two dozen bodies
found in the cave had been purposely taken into the cave as their final resting place. It now looks like H. naledi had death rituals, and that
part of this ritual was the sex separate burial of their dead. Evidence
for such a behavior among humans only dates back to 5,000 years ago, but
H. naledi would have been practicing this ritual over 200,000 years ago.
They need to find where the males were taken.
