The claim is that they have produced a plasmid DNA vaccine that encodes multiple conserved spike protein antigen peptide sequences. They can
inject the plasmid into muscle and it can be taken up and transcribed by
the cells. The peptide sequences have been chosen because they are
regions of the spike protein that are conserved and serve as antibody
binding sites. The sequences do differ between the different corona
virus so they designed multiple peptides for the same region of the gene corresponding to the major sequence in each of the different corona
virus. They had AI design possible ways that the peptide sequence might evolve in the future and still remain functional in the spike protein
and added those antigens to the plasmid, so they think that they have
produce a "universal" for SARS and Covid virus. The vaccine seems to
produce antibodies to bat Covid strains that have not transistioned to
humans at this time, so they could be onto something. They need to demonstrate that the antibodies that are produced will be enough to
support an effective immune response when the vaccinated individual is infected by the disease virus.
