They tracked 29,000 Texas college graduates for 15 years to determine
how much more they made than someone that did not go to college. Even
liberal arts majors ended up a little ahead of high school graduates
that did not go to college. One surprise is that Biology, and
Agriculture and natural resource majors did better than Physics and math majors. When I got my PhD in the early 1990's Biology PhDs had the
highest number of graduates working in their field of choice (they got
biology related jobs). The lowest was Physics PhD with very few getting
jobs in their field of interest. They still made more money than
Biology PhDs because a lot of them got jobs in the financial world doing economic simulations at that time. That doesn't seem to work out for
Physics undergraduates.
