It is strange that incidence is declining when migratory bird arrivals
should be peaking by mid May. The currrent wave of commercial flock infections likely started before any migratory birds had arrived in the Northern US.

    https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/moderna-s-combo-flu-covid-vaccine-receives-european-authorization

The combination Moderna flu and Covid vaccine has been approved in
Europe and shows higher antibody titers than the standard flu vaccine.
Kennedy canceled the mRNA flu vaccine research and initially rejected Moderna's first trial positive results indicating that the mRNA vaccine protected better than the standard vaccine (the standard vaccine had
missed one of the major viral strains infecting people last flu season.
mRNA vaccines can be made to match the virus that is infecting people so
they do not have to guess and be wrong about what virus to put in the
vaccine. If we had an mRNA vaccine for this flu season we would likely
not be seeing higher than normal infant mortality figures and adult
influenza mortality. They missed guessing right again and the current
vaccine is not effective against the virus causing 80% of the infections.

The CDC is claiming that the flu season is winding down, but that half a
dozen more infant mortality is reported. This news article claims that
85% of the infant mortality has been among those that were not
vaccinated. I do not know how much of that is just due to the ratio of vaccinated to unvaccinated because the vaccine missed the K strain of
the virus, but it may still have enough protection to keep the kids from dying. My guess is that a lot of kids were just never vaccinated this
    flu season.

Germany had poultry and cats infected with H5N1. A couple cats died and showed the same neurological symptoms that the cats have shown when
infected by the dairy virus. For some reason the virus infects the
brains of the cats and they die. H5N1 seems to be infecting mammals in
the same way in Europe and America. A few months ago I had a post where cattle had been infected by H5N1 in Europe, and now cats have been infected.

    https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/avian-influenza-bird-flu/avian-flu-detections-drop-across-us

Detections are down in terms of infected flocks for the second week (30
day period). Feb was the worst month this year with 11.41 million birds affected. For March and April most of the infections were in meat bird
flocks that are much smaller than layer flocks. Only 15 commercial
flocks and 8 backyard flocks in the last 30 days (660,000 birds
affected). 15 commercial flocks is still epidemic proportions. Except
in high infection years like in 2015, 2022 and 2024-2026 the number of infected commercial flocks was usually zero or limited to just a handful
    of flocks.

My take from the dairy infection is that Avian Influenza is adapting to infecting humans and other mammals, and mammals are the vectors for the increased rates of commercial flock infections. It is likely that farm workers are infecting the birds and transmitting the virus from farm to
farm in the same county or region. We know that farm workers work on
more than one farm, farm workers get infected by animal contact, and
that infected farm workers can shed live infective virus. Just changing closes or showering before going to another farm will not keep the birds
from being infected by virus shed by the infected farm worker. Virus
survives on skin for only minutes, and on clothing for only a few hours,
but infected workers can shed the live virus for days. No one seems to
want to face this reality even as dozens of farms have gone down in the
same counties in the lastest round of commercial flock infections.

USDA confirmed 5 new cases of dairy cattle H5N1 infection in Idaho
(April 13, 2026). They are not disclosing the genotype. Idaho is the
only state listed with new infections in the last 30 days, but the USDA stopped listing reinfected herds last year, so the extent of the current
dairy infection can no longer be tracked using the USDA data. Idaho
claims 17 herds under quarantine, so how did 5 new herds get infected?
The USDA doesn't track reinfected herds, but the last new herd infected
in Idaho was back in Dec. That herd should have cleared by now, but
there are 17 herds still under quarantine. It looks like Idaho has not
been able to stop the reinfection of herds that had already cleared the
virus, and this has resulted in 5 new herd infections. Idaho was first infected by the Texas strain of the virus in 2024, but the California
strain started to show up in Idaho in 2025. It usually takes less than
3 months for the virus to run through a herd, but some cattle can
apparently shed virus for up to a year. They should be running tests on
how long infected farm workers and veterinarians can shed live virus
(cattle veterinarians have been known to have been infected since last
    year).

    https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.3003761

The claim is that they found infective airborne virus in dairy milking
barns. They also found virus in all forms of waste water. The paper
does not note that the highest virus titers in aerosol droplets were
collected following dairy workers as they progressed down the milking
line. The cows are rinsed off and the udders cleaned and the waste
water contains live virus. For some reason they do not take into consideration that their micro droplets are produced in this environment
to float around inside of the barn. Only 2 positive samples were
obtained by having the cows breath into their collection apparatus, and
the concentration of virus was much lower than the average titer
collected on the other side of the animals walking by the milking
process. My take is that the virus did not come from the cows breath,
but was sucked in as droplets that managed to get to the front of the
cows from where the aerosol was formed by the cleaning process.

My guess is that they can't pick up any airborne virus in the cattle
feeding pens. They did not report any success outside of the milking barn.

My take is that the virus can be airborne, but most of the virus is not
coming from the breath of the cattle. It is due to waste water
splashing and production of aerosol droplets. It is a means of
infecting the eyes of the dairy workers, but the most likely mode of
infection is the dairy workers being observed to wipe their faces with
the same towel that they are using to clean the udders with. The viral
titer of the material in the towel is likely much higher than the
airborne droplets. It is also the most likely means of transferring the
virus from udder to udder. These towels are often kept in a bucket of
bleach solution, but not always. My guess is that the dairy workers are
not wiping their faces with towels with disinfectant on them. If they
were their skin would get bleached. Sometimes the towels are only
disinfected when washed for reuse. For some reason no one is checking
for that alternative even though it was noted early in the infection.
It was not one of the modes of infection tested by the USDA when they
were unable to produce infections with purposely contaminated milking equipment.

Measles virus was detected in New Mexico waste water 5 days before
    confirmed cases were reported.

This is relevant to the dairy virus epidemic because H5N1 virus was
detected in waste water of urban areas (in California months before it
was detected on dairy farms). Some of the states like California had
not yet detected the virus in their dairy herds, and they could not
explain how the virus was getting in the waste water. They believed
that human infection was unlikely, and that there must have been some
    other source for the virus.

As far as I know they still do not know where the virus was coming from.
In some states the positive waste water came from counties with
infected dairies, but the Bay Area in California detections were unexplainable. The California dairy strain of the virus is so different
in sequence that it might have been passing undetected among humans.
The three positive cattle veterinarians did not know that they had been infected. Most of the times the symptoms are mild. They may want to
look into ichy eyes or cases of pink eye during the times the waste
water was positive. These cases would have likely been misdiagnosed and treated with antibiotics or eye drops.

Florida is likely the worst case of neglect by the CDC and USDA. The
FDA found the dairy virus in Florida milk products, and the virus was
detected in waste water, but the CDC and USDA refused to identify the
infected dairies in the waste water positive counties. They relied on
self reporting, but Florida refused to test for the infection. 3 other
states identified to have infected milk products with no infected herds eventually identified infected dairy herds, but Florida never did even
though they had infected waste water and dairy products. Florida let
the infection run through all their dairies. They made no attempt to
identify infected herds nor try to reduce what was likely spreading
throughout their state, so that by the time that the USDA finally
mandated Bulk milk tank testing they were negative like several other
states that had been infected early in 2024. My guess is that if you
tested for antibodies that you would find very few Florida herds that
    did not test positive.
