These researchers added 10,000 new genome sequences to the population analysis.-a The samples are concentrated from Europe and the Middle East within the last 18,000 years.-a They claim that they see rapid evolution
in the last 10,000 years.-a I haven't read the paper, but their figures indicate that most of the genes affected by selection seem to be immune related genes (like MHC) and pigmentation genes (like tyrosinase).-a You expect rapid allele frequency shifts because of the multiple population replacement events that occurred in Europe since the Neanderthal were eliminated from Europe.-a Otzi the ice man's hunter gatherer people were pretty much eliminated from Europe around 6,000 years ago when
agriculture took over.-a Their genetics only survive in some mountainous regions and Mediterranean islands.-a I do not know how they compensated
for population replacement and mixing that occurred with the Bronze age migration into Europe.
Basically they have a lot of genome sequences, and they seem to have
enough samples to make their claims.
