This is a list of countries with highest military expenditures.
Military spending by country
Rank Country Spending

spending

A lot of US military spending goes into advancing our level of technology which transfers to civilian industry. In the 80's I watched the general quality of electronic circuit boards significantly improve as the board vendors equipped themselves to meet military standards and then became able
to offer that higher quality and performance level for competitively priced high density multilayer industrial and computer boards. Between 1980 and
1990 the reject rate decreased dramatically and the component density and permissible operating speed jumped, mirrored in the CPU clock speed rise
which would be wasted if the memory bus on the board couldn't keep up. The military digital radio developmental projects I worked on in the early 90's led to compact cell phones. The concepts were older, just waiting for
enabling technology. The Army and Air Force have had secure global digital wired and wireless communications networks since the 60's, I was a repair
tech for one.
