Gary B. Roberts's forthcoming new royal descents book will include the line given below on the newsgroup (by me in November 2013). I was speculating at the time, but later found strengthening information which I passed along to Gary. The Taylors of Bradley, the birth family of Mrs. Elizabeth Tufton alias Mason, was rather obscure; the strongest statement on them seemed to be contained in the funerary monument of Mrs. Tufton/Mason's nephew, Rev. Reynolds Taylor, who died young in May 1692:

"Neer hereunto lyeth the Body of Mr. Reynolds Taylor who married Rebecca, Daughter of Christopher Turnor ... He was son of Thomas Taylor Esqr., Lord of this manor and Patron of this Church by Fayth his wife, Daughter and sole Heir of John Reynolds of Fenditton ... which Thomas was son of William Taylor of Bradley in the County of South[hamp]ton Esqre. by Barbara, Daughter of Thomas Hanbury of Hanbury in the County of Worcester, which William was son of Thomas Taylor of Bradley Esqre. by Mary Daughter of John Shorbolt of Yardley Place in the County of Hartford Esqr. ..."

    https://books.google.com/books?id=6TtOAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA300&dq=%22thomas+taylor%22+elizabeth+hanbury&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjsoP-0tPvZAhUN7lMKHTO1ArYQ6AEINDAC#v=onepage&q=%22thomas%20taylor%22%20elizabeth%20hanbury&f=false

Shorbolt is surely Shotbolt, a prominent Hertfordshire family located near Yardley or Ardeley. [I believe I remember noticing that Le Neve's _Monumenta Anglicana_ reads the name in the Reyolds Taylor inscription as either SHOTBOLT or SHOPBOLT, not SHORBOLT.]

In 2013, I speculated that the Thomas Taylor who married a Shotbolt of Ardley/ Yardley later removed, about 1620-25, to Bradley, Hampshire, upon his remarriage to the widow Hanbury, mother of his son's wife, Barbara Hanbury, wife of William Taylor.

Recently, I located proof that this was indeed so among the docs. on the "Anglo-American Legal Tradition" website.

    C78/280, no. 1, 159:

    1631, 10 Nov.

--Thomas Taylor of Bradley, Hants v Rt. Hon. Lady Elizabeth Griffen, widow.

--Debts on security of copyhold lands in Yardley and Clothall, Herts. John Shotbolt.

    http://www.uh.edu/waalt/index.php/C78_1631

I believe Chauncey's _Hertfordshire_ had stated that one Thomas Taylor sold property at Yardley to Lady Elizabeth Griffen around 1620, but did not actually state that Taylor removed to the fairly distant county of Hampshire. The above seems to prove it, and to place him at Bradley, Hampshire, which was the stated location of origin for Elizabeth Taylor in the 1660 London Visitation account of Robert Tufton alias Mason, her husband.

My original posting (I'm not sure all the links still work): -----------------------------

Torrey's _New England Marriages_ shows that the immigrant, Robert Tufton _alias_ Mason was married in England before 1659 to a woman named Elizabeth Taylor:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=mOgK8dM9qqUC&pg=PA495&dq=%22elizabeth+taylor%22+tufton&hl=en&sa=X&ei=fAN0UqzdMtHlsAS_jICoBA&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22elizabeth%20taylor%22%20tufton&f=false

The source for this statement appears to be the 1664 Visitation of London:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=jbI8AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA39&dq=%22william+taylor+of+bradley%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=bw50UtO0BeTfsASshIDgAw&ved=0CDsQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=%22william%20taylor%20of%20bradley%22&f=false

A snippet view from the London Visitation I've pulled up indeed states that "Robert Tufton alias Mason of London" married "Eliz. da. of William Taylor of Bradley co. Southampton, Ar[miger]."

    http://books.google.com/books?id=UPpQAQAAIAAJ&q=%22taylor+of+bradley%22&dq=%22taylor+of+bradley%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=BI0SUrKYPIPs2QXjv4C4CQ&ved=0CEkQ6AEwBTgK

It also states that Robert was "grandson to 2[nd] brother of Lord Tufton."

This statement, which would have given Robert a probable royal descent, seems to be clearly disproved by the following argument:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=WiUTAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA396&dq=%22tufton+but+it+is+certainly+improbable+that+he+was+a%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ARB0UtftK6m_sQTd8YDQBw&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22tufton%20but%20it%20is%20certainly%20improbable%20that%20he%20was%20a%22&f=false

However, I believe it could be very possible that Elizabeth Taylor, wife of Robert Tufton-Mason, has a descent from the Boteler family which is also a royal descent, in part running thus ...

    Philip Boteler = Elizabeth Drury

John Boteler of Watton Woodhall, Hertfordshire = Grizel Roche

Mary Boteler = Thomas Shotbolt of Yardley, Hertfordshire

    John Shotbolt = Jane Tony

Mary Shotbolt = Thomas Taylor of Middlesex, Hertfordshire, and Bradley, Hampshire [he married, 2nd, to Elizabeth (Gregg/ Grigg) Hanbury, mother of Barbara, below]

    William Taylor = Barbara Hanbury

Elizabeth Taylor = Robert Tufton alias Mason

I can't find much on the Taylor family of Bradley, Hampshire, but have scrapped the possible royal descent together from the sources below, relying most heavily on the M.I. of Elizabeth Taylor's nephew, who died quite young (but recently married) in 1692:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=6TtOAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA300&dq=%22thomas+taylor%22+elizabeth+hanbury&hl=en&sa=X&ei=eIsSUpToFoGK2gXAgoCYAQ&ved=0CDgQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=%22thomas%20taylor%22%20elizabeth%20hanbury&f=false

"Shorbolt" is surely an error for the well-known surname Shotbolt, and the Shotbolt pedigree in Chauncy's _Hertfordshire_ easily connects them back to the Boteler family (see p. 123):

    http://books.google.com/books?id=AhUHAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA124&dq=%22thomas+taylor%22+shotbolt&hl=en&sa=X&ei=LIoSUsupPKPz2QWn6IF4&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22thomas%20taylor%22%20shotbolt&f=false

    http://books.google.com/books?id=gqwKAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA163&dq=jane+tony+shotbolt&hl=en&sa=X&ei=1RR0UuvzDua2sASJ6oG4BA&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=jane%20tony%20shotbolt&f=false

Additional support comes from the baptism of Robert and Elizabeth (Taylor) Tufton's daughter Blanche Tufton in January 1678 at St. Margaret's, Westminster (for which see IGI batch #P00160-3). [The baptisms of the other Tufton children--John, Robert, and Charles, and Elizabeth--are found in the St. Nicholas Acons, London, parish register:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=pF9mAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA32&dq=%22robert+tufton+alias+mason%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=WIcSUsfDGIKr2wWM3IDADw&ved=0CFQQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=tufton&f=false
    ]

The use of the slightly unusual name Blanch ties into these other records of the maternal grandmother Barbara (Hanbury) Taylor's known sister Blanche Hanbury, wife of Ithiel/ Ethiel Lynch:

    http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015025922660;view=1up;seq=174

    http://books.google.com/books?id=ECoEAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA67&dq=%22barbara+hanbury%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=xoQSUsbRKoqv2wW9r4GgBw&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22barbara%20hanbury%22&f=false

    http://books.google.com/books?id=Xf8cAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA871&dq=%22tailor+of+bradley%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=pYwSUuv0F4mO2wXEgoHQCg&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22tailor%20of%20bradley%22&f=false

(It therefore seems clear that the marriage of William Taylor and Barbara Hanbury was the marriage of step-siblings.)

Mrs. Mary (Shotbolt) Taylor, first wife of Thomas Taylor, seems to have died in 1622 in Hertfordshire, before her husband removed to Hampshire and remarried to widow Elizabeth Hanbury:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=0omY2KpMfKIC&pg=PA279&dq=%22john+shotbolt%22+taylor&hl=en&sa=X&ei=FYsSUpCjCerZ2QXt7YHIBw&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22john%20shotbolt%22%20taylor&f=false
The marriage of a Thomas Shotbolt with Jone Taylor occurred 1 May 1623 at St. Benet, Paul's Wharf.

Possibly an instance of siblings marrying siblings ...

Batalion? He must have had a regimented upbringing.

Batalion Shotbolt sort of sounds like an early, primitive firearm ... He is shown near the bottom of the Shotbolt pedigree in Chauncey's Hertfordshire.
