• Let's stop saying "farewell" and try to keep this newsgroup going.

During this month, a few of us have posted messages trying to keep this newsgroup alive. Unfortunately, there are also those bemoaning the
"death" of the newsgroup (of which I am probably also guilty), which may
be turning that into a self-fulfilling prophesy, where people who
believe the newsgroup to be "dead" quit posting to it, with the smaller
number of postings causing more people to conclude that it is over.
In fact, this newsgroup will be "dead" only if people quit posting to
it. So, those of us who are still around might be able to keep it alive
if a trickle of postings is enough to get the word out and cause others
to join in. The main difficulty is that Google pulled the rug out from
under us, and too many people don't realize that they can get the
    newsgroup in other ways.
Such an attempt might very well fail, but it certainly doesn't help to
have people making postings saying that the newsgroup is dead. This is especially true of postings suggesting that in the subject line, using
words like "farewell". If we try to limit our postings to things like genealogical discussions or questions and other relevant matters, and
don't give up just because there is only a trickle for a while, maybe something good will happen.

It's taken me this long to get help getting linked in, so I certainly
hope that the group rebuilds. I have found it invaluable in the past.

I have been lurking in this group for years. I want to see it continued.

I still recommend even the archives of this group fairly often - there
was a discussion on TikTok from last month on Roots and Routes that I
think would be of great interest here. He's currently going through
lines of descent for Kamala Harris, and one of them is on the likely
fictional "Elline Seymour", "daughter" of Thomas Seymour, of which the
only sources seem to go back to the list of "Descendants of Owain ap
Maredudd ap Tudur" posted on Tripod.com in 2004.

I'm still limited here on posting since I just registered for NovaBBS
but I'll try to post a couple more recent adventures in Medieval
Genealogy I have been working through.
