    The association Centre Culturel rCLGilbert de VenablesrCY (aka CCGV) in Venables, France, is seeking individuals interested in or connected to
    the name Venables. Venables is a charming village located in the
    Normandy region, west of Paris.

    In 1066, a young man named Gilbert from Venables joined William the ConquerorrCOs troops at the Battle of Hastings. Following their victory, Gilbert and his descendants established themselves in England, with his lineage becoming the Barons of Kinderton, near what is now the village
    of Middlewich.

    While Gilbert de Venables unquestionably took part in the Norman
    Conquest of England, he is not among the (very) short list of Norman conquerors whose presence at Hastings itself is directly attested by
    reliable sources.
