For anyone who uses FreeBMD, if you got to the website you'll get a
popup which leads to this: <https://www.freeukgenealogy.org.uk/freeprobate-pledges>

"WerCOre launching FreeProbate (FreePRO) a revolutionary, free-to-access database of UK probate records."

    database of UK probate records."

It would be helpful if they explained how it will differ from this free-to-access database: https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/

If you do some AI searches you will get answers such as:

UK Probate Indexes: FreePROBATE will include a detailed index of UK
probate records, making it uniquely comprehensive and open-access for
    the first time.

Coverage: The records will be drawn from official probate sources and
are expected to include entries for England, Wales, and potentially
    other UK jurisdictions.

    Content Types:

    Names of deceased individuals

Names of executors (the people responsible for administering the estate)

Dates (death, grant of probate, and other relevant events)

Addresses associated with the deceased and executors

Occupations of the deceased and executors

Additional personal details where available (such as relationships,
    property details, etc.)

The FreePROBATE project is expected to include probate records from the
UK covering a broad timescale, beginning with records from the mid-19th century onward. Probate records generally exist for individuals who died
after 1857, which marks the start of official civil probate
registrations in England and Wales. This means FreePROBATE will likely
include records starting from around 1858 through to more recent years, potentially up to the present day as probate records continue to be created.

By its planned launch in 2026, the FreePROBATE project aims to include
probate records covering a broad historical range from about 1858 to
near the present day. While it will feature a comprehensive index of historical probate records, the availability of probate records as
recent as 2025 depends on the ongoing updating process.

Will you be able to download a copy of a will, like you can for a small payment on the government probate site?

Don't know the answer to that but I'd like to say how remarkable it is
that when wills first became available for download they cost u10 and
since then the price has been reduced to u1.50. Wonder how they
managed to reduce the price when most other services find excuses to
    increase them.

Pile them high, sell them cheap perhaps. At a tenner each I'll have one,
    at -u1.50 I'll have a dozen.

The costs reduce greatly once the whole lot is filmed and manual
handling is cut out. Some jurisdictions don't even bother to charge
for online access to older wills and records whose production in
certified form is a near zero requirement.
