Scientists reveal how seven days of fasting transforms the human body

Scientists have discovered that the human body undergoes a dramatic
internal transformation during extended fasting, with major changes
appearing only after about three days without food. In a seven-day
water-only fasting study, researchers tracked thousands of proteins in
the blood and found widespread shifts affecting organs throughout the
body -- including the brain. While the body quickly switches from
burning glucose to fat, the most intriguing biological changes linked
to potential health benefits didn't emerge until later in the fast.
    ...
    ...
Participants lost an average of 5.7 kilograms (about 12.5 pounds),
including both fat and lean tissue. After participants resumed eating
for three days, most of the lean tissue loss returned while much of
    the fat loss remained.

I would think that tricking your body into thinking you were starving
and in dire straits would cause some seriously important changes to
body chemistry and brain function. You essentially send your body into
    crisis mode.

I'd like to lose a few pounds for sure, but this sounds like an awful
strategy. Interesting to study what happens when you are starving, I
    suppose.
