    Burridge's model applies the mathematical laws of statistical
    physics to predict where and how fast regional dialect bound-
    aries shift, stabilize, or dissolve based on population den-
    sity and social conformity. Conversely, it does not predict
    the development of specific words or forecast exactly which
    linguistic traits a dialect region will choose to adopt.

    I would guess the moblity of people would have a significant effect
    on the shifting or stability of dialect boundaries.
