I had an odd thought - that most of the messages posted on AUE are OT
('Off Topic') . My question - what proportion of all messages is OT?
To be clear, I don't care if the original post is 'on topic'. We are
all aware that there is drift in all threads, which eventually end up discussing an OT subject. By this I mean it has nothing to do with the Subject matter, nor does it have anything to do with use of English.
I'll seed the discussion with my estimate: > 80%. Am I being optimistic?
IAWTP.
When I first attempted to barge in here, some of the long time Regulars
(esp one PTD) felt I wasn't really up to it - my excuse was that I was
here to learn, but it did seem very much more exclusive.

Bah, and indeed Humbug.
Why did PTD leave?
In Sci.Lang are ppl happy that he is gone?
I think it was he who kept saying that
there are only 3 (?) linguists in Sci.Lang
He was SOOOO ignorant about many Ling topics, e.g. Jp and Chinese.
or about Modality... French(?)
