OT Why dod people smoke crack in crack pipes?

Wouldn't it be less noticeable if they smoked their crack in tobacco
    pipes?

It's like an advertisement, "I'm smoking crack", that you can see from
    a distance.

But if it were s tobacco pipe you'd have to get a lot closer or know
what it smells like. I have no idea what crack smells like.

Is it like wearing sneakers with a well-known logo?

alt.home.repair. When Agent has a lot of tabs, it abbreviates the
first part to a.h.repair and here to s.c.repair. I usually don't have
this group showing, so to me repair meant a.h.repair.

I don't think they are the same thing at all.
Don't that apply heat from outside the crack pipe to vaporise the crack
    inside it?

They fab improvised ones out of plastic bottles IIRC, though - so that
