Here's a follow-up, or at least a related post to this one by me:

The preveious DVDR had a bad clock, that ran fast, so if I said to
record something from 9-10, in a few days, I'd be missing the end of the
show. So I learned to say 8;55 to 10:20

Now I have another identical machine, from ebay, and I've had it for
iirc about a year, long eough that even shows set to stop recording 20
minutes late are truncating the show now, because this clock too runs
    fast.

I'm not too suprised that one does, but bothered that two are like this. Kenwood DVDR, 3875 iirc with Hardrive, bought about 2010.

If you recall the first one was completely dead, but I found a little
black button inside and though I have not connected it, it seems that everything works, now that I prssed the magic button. Since the 2nd
machine is the same age within a couple years, though may not have been
used as much as my first one, I anticipate it too will suddenly stop
working, but this time I know about the magic button.
