    A viral video captured by a couple at Silver Springs
    State Park shows dozens of monkeys cannonballing into
    the waters at the park.

    Trenda Kitchen obtained the video of the rhesus
    macaque monkeys diving into the waters while she and
    her husband were kayaking at the park recently.

    Rhesus macaque monkeys were first introduced into the
    Silver Springs area over 85 years ago, by Colonel
    Tooey, a tour boat operator who released just six of
    the animals onto the island that was later converted
    into the park.

    Tooey was unfamiliar with the swimming proficiency of
    the monkeys, which are known to be able to swim across
    bodies of water up to a mile wide. The monkeys escaped
    and six more monkeys were brought in.

    Now, the monkeys number in the hundreds.
