Is this the only I2P(D) group in the NNTP universe?

    It just might be :)

The rocksolid.* hierarchy started in i2p, then leaked into Usenet.

No idea so far. Is the second 2 squaring everything in front of it or
just one char? But I might just have the thinking-too-complicated gene.

    Tick...tick...tick... :)

Oh, and to answer your question above, the '2' is simple and not really important. My main peering server is 'i2pn', so 'i2pn2' is just the
secondary server, which I use for actual nnrpd (client connections). I keep peering and clients separate.

    Trying with all 2s "expanded":

    Invisible Internet Protocol Net News?

    gBo?

    You got it!

    It was specifically:
Invisible Internet Protocol Newsgroups, but Net News works also :)

The first place we peered was in i2p, using inn and Synchronet, and a
modified FudForum as an interface. Since FudForum was a pain, and not
well suited to proper Usenet functionality, we started our own (there
were two of us) web interfaces. Rocksolid Light still continues
development, and is meant to be a proper Usenet client as opposed to
standard web forum software that happens to sync with newsgroups.

nntp/nnrpd access is still accessible, and still peers inside i2p, as
well as at least two rslight instances.

There are still signs of Synchronet hooks inside rslight code, but it is
no longer fully supported. I do still peer one Synchronet install with rocksolid.*

That was my guess before the update about the trailing "2", so I looked
for a solution with two "n"s.

The first place we peered was in i2p,

So I2P even before Tor? Interesting!

Yes, we were both I2P users and wanted a forum in i2p that didn't end up
going away, which they all seem to do at some point. As of now, we've
had a forum interface for, I think, about 7 years now. Reliable and
peered. Not that any i2p bigshots notice this fact, lol. Currently, I
also have two full nntp (inn) peers inside i2p, and two web interfaces.

Tor is a bit different. I do have a presence in Tor, a web interface and
I am willing to peer in Tor, but it's not really very important to me.
It's simple with Tor to just connect to clearnet servers.

As is probably of no surprise, nearly all the abuse on my servers comes
via Tor web interfaces. I have no intention of dropping i2p.
