So it seems that Wayland does not allow a program to select it's own
position when loading. I just found this out after two days of
troubleshooting after an os upgrade, and discussion on a help forum (wxWidgets).
The final result is that Xorg properly allows the programmer to make
these decisions, Wayland does not.
The change in icons on my desktop should have given me a clue of the
switch to Wayland as default :)
