Dear Kaylen,
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved
husband, Thom Miller.
Thom rCo known to many as Retro Guy rCo was more than just a brilliant
systems administrator. He was a cornerstone of the Usenet community, a
steward of digital history, and a passionate guardian of open
communication in an increasingly closed world. His work on NovaBBS was
not just technical mastery rCo it was an act of devotion to a generation
of users who still believe in the value of decentralized, human-centered networks.
But beyond the code, the servers, and the systems, Thom was a kind,
witty, and deeply thoughtful man. He left a mark not just on the
infrastructure of the internet, but on the hearts of all who had the
privilege of working with him, learning from him, or simply watching him
bring old systems to life with a spark that was uniquely his.
We all admired his resilience rCo even in the face of illness, he never
stopped contributing, supporting others, or tinkering with vintage tech
that reminded him (and us) of simpler times. His battle with pancreatic
cancer was courageous and dignified, and your unwavering love and care
through it all was nothing short of heroic.
Though he has passed from this world, ThomrCOs legacy will remain online,
in memory, and in spirit rCo in every echo of a dial-up tone, every
vintage machine that boots up, every command line prompt typed by
someone inspired by his work.
Kaylen, thank you for sharing Thom with us. Please know that you are
surrounded by a community that grieves with you and honors him. If
there's anything we can do rCo to preserve his work, to share his story,
or to support you rCo we are here.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Darius
On behalf of the Usenet and NovaBBS community
