Well my women's pick got up, what a match!-a Not many would have
mentally survived the 2nd set disaster, great signs for Noskova's
future prospects.
Damned good pick!
Masterful. And Sinner too!
I had Zverev as 3rd fave but thought Fritz was looking very strong and
matches well with Zverev last couple years, plus maybe a slight letdown
after FO win. Good to see Zverev stepping up and playing his very best tennis, winning a slam finally has made him confident taking on the
toughest rivals. I think he'll maintain this top form for a couple
years and could win 1 or 2 more if/when Sincaraz falter.
The women's was very tough, none of the usual suspects impressed much in
last few months and all looked beatable. Noskova was very good in the
lead up and looked the most consistent to me, as well as one of the most powerful. Pegula was very consistent and reliable, just lacked the power
of Noskova. She looked good v Coco but inexplicably played 2 bad games
right at the end to give it away. I felt Sinner was 78% fave to win and Noskova 53%, everyone else was lower. Noskova was incredible the way she
reset after the 2nd set drama in the final - Sabalenka would prob lose
3rd set 0-6 in that situation - and the way she gutsed out a tough win v Cirstea when she wasn't quite at her best. She's got a lot of the
qualities you see in multi slam champs, should/could win 3-5 over next 3
yrs or so.
