Hello!
According to some betting odds, here are
the likelihoods concerning Sunday's final
at Roland Garros 2026:
Who is predicted to win?
Alexander Zverev 67.21 %
Flavio Cobolli 32.79 %
I am a bit surprised. I would put Sasha even
higher. Cobolli needs some kind of a miracle
to become a champion.

The first set is practically done. Zverev leads
4-1 with a double break!

6-1 with a triple break. It was all Zverev.
This must help with Zverev's nerves.
The second set has been much closer. Cobolli
was patient enough and managed to break Sasha's
serve in a long game. He leads 4-3 but can he
finish the set?!
I wonder do we have a match here now?
Again, the third set was a close one. But serving
at 4-5, Cobolli *really* blew it. A couple of
cheap forehand errors and Sasha leads by two
sets to one.
He is still ahead 3-2 but Sasha is after a
counter break. We are still a long way from
the fifth set!
Cobolli blew it *again* and lost his serve
with some cheap errors. We are at 3-3.
I cannot believe this. Just as I thought that
now Sasha is going to steal this, Cobolli
breaks him and goes ahead again, 4-3. The
quality of this match has not been that
amazing, but it is certainly a very entertaining
contest!
Let's see whether Cobolli can stay cool and
serve it out. He leads 5-4 and is one hold
away from taking the fourth set. Those nerves!
Sasha upped his game and broke back. We are at
5-5 and it is exciting indeed!
We have a fifth and deciding set. Quite honestly,
I would like to see Cobolli as the champion in
2026, but I still think Sasha's experience and power
will triumph in the end.
3-0 with a double break to Sasha. No way Cobolli
can come back from this dreaded situation.
4-0 after a difficult game. The end is near.

6-1. What a lame fifth set by Cobolli.
Nothing else to say but congratulations to
Zverev. He was a better player tonight!

Zverev tried his hardest to lose, but Cobolli, helpful dago that he is, refused the gifts.

Cobolli at his best has a fearsome baseline game.-a Lucky for Zverev
Flavio is not exactly a mental giant himself and prob unlikely to sieze
the opportunity.
Yeah, one could say that he pushed Zverev over the winning line by
choking a bit more. But there were also some good passages of play from
Z towards the end. Watching Z's draw it was very lightweight, but he deserves the title.

Well, Djokerlost pretty early to Fonseca, but I was right in thatthe champion did emerge from Zverev's side semifinal. It is a great victory for Sasha to be sure, but hewas also lucky because Alcaraz was injured and Sinnergot sick. If Sinner had stayed healthy, I am sure hewould have won, but in the end it is pretty useless toconsider these counter factual situations. So, yes, Zverev got lucky, but it was not his fault. He did his best in the final and took the crown. ButCobolli's fifth set performance was incredibly badand it was a big letdown to see the set go 6-1.br,KK
If Sinner in his prime can choke away entire
tournament that was his to lose
*skriptis <skriptis@post.t-com.hr> wrote:> If Sinner in his prime can choke away entire> tournament that was his to loseAre you totally crazy? Did you even see the match?Sinner did not "choke". He got a heat stroke orsomething and was barely able to walk. That iswhy his performance was 10% of his best ability.Any loser in the Top 1000 would have beaten Sinnerthat day. The only surprising thing is that Sinnerdid not retire even though he could not getanything done.br,KK
I said he choke away tournament, not the match itself, read more carefully.

Sinner was 6-2, 6-2, 5-1 up againsta bad player and would have killed it, but he got sickand despite hanging in there, could not recover. Endof story.br,KK

If Sinner in his prime can choke away entire tournament that was his to lose, pardon Cobolli for having a letdown in the 5th set of his first slam final.
No biggie there.
What fascinates me here is Zverev and his (in)ability to always play toe to toe with whomever he is playing?
For years, as he was already winning ATP1000s title, he was struggling in early rounds of slam vs clearly lesser players, unnecessary prolonging matches and losing early or tiring himself.
That is often forgotten, you guys think of him as someone who couldn't win a slam, but he wasn't even making lots of late rounds until recently.
In fact he is actually a very late bloomer to even have become "slam finalist loser", it's been mere 6 years since his first one, but that one was COVID USO 2020 and Djokovic was kicked out, then he got injured in 2022 broke his ankle so realistically it's only just recently, 2024, 2025 and 2026 that he made slam finals in consecutive years.
But even nowadays, he's playing 5 sets with Alcaraz for example here two years ago or this year in Australia, but at the same time 5 sets with Cobolli? As if just throw him anyone and he'll get himself into extended matches... Alcaraz or Cobolli doesn't make a difference?
I hope he can play more freely from now on.
I really wanted him to win, it would have been disgusting to see him lose, and it's not because I'm such a fan, it would merely be way too much unsettling and pathetic.

He didn't prepare sufficiently and has made mistakes.

Same here.I was feeling secondhand embarrassment (Finnish: "my||t|nh|npe|n")
-afor him during the match when he tried to gift his leads away. Really didn't want to see him fail again at last hurdle.
On 5th set he broke in the beginning and then made a double fault &
missed first serve. I said out loud that it wouldn't surprise me if he
made another double here - which he then did. All due to nerves. Understandable but also a bit awkward to watch considering the relative strength of his game...
I guess he managed to man up just the right moment. What this does to
rest of his career? Your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea.
