Last time Djokovic lost after 2-0 lead, 2010 FO QF to Melzer.

    So a circle is complete.

In the meantime, including 2010, he made 16 consecutive QF here. The streak has now ended.

But it's absurd, someone could surpass Nadal's 14 FO titles and would still come up 1 QF short of matching Djokovic's QF streak.

    In total that's 19 QFs.

    2006-2008, 2010-2025.

Fonseca is good, but I believe he will lose next round. He's inexperienced to deal with multiple 5 set matches in a row, coming back from 0-2 twice, and beating Djokovic in a 5-hour match is likely to drain him.

So I write him off for this title, but he's good for the future, the forehand is fabulous.

The match was fascinating, level was great, it had a great match vibe from the start.

Djokovic is simply rusty to win matches like these, even if he was at his better. Also they say it was one of the hottest FOs ever so that surely couldn't help him, he was simply losing energy as the match went on.

He probably should have avoided Fonseca forehand a bit more in some situations, but he's never played him before, so I can't blame him for not playing a perfect match tactically.

On the other hand, if Fonseca had the experience of a 21-year old instead of 19-yesr old, it would have been a lot easier win as I feel in this situation he didn't give his best in the beginning.

Yeah, somewhat reminisce of Sampras Federer when 19 year old faceing 29 year old.

    Sorry 39 year old. ;)

In some ways this match reminds me of Djokovic 2019 FO semi loss to Thiem, = 7:5 in the fifth as well.

A coin toss match like this one, but both then and now, a more polished cla= ycourter won.

Fonseca is Brazilian and I assumed he would be natural claycourter, but I h= ear heavy US accent in his speech, so he probably developed there and perha=
ps hasn't been formed on clay to the same extent as e.g. Spaniards are, but=
nevertheless he has the same ability that won Thiem his 2019 FO semi, and = that is generating his own pace off of forehand and smacking the ball consi= stently.

If Djokovic can't outrun you and outmanoeuvre you (and he couldn't do that = consistently to this kid) and if you can hit bigger forehand than him (and = Fonseca did), you have the edge.

The irony of "weak draw" with Alcaraz and Sinner being out, Djokovic had hi=
s part filled with Fonseca in round 3 already, followed by guys like Ruud, =
De Minuaur, Zverev, all that before final.

I don't think he even planned on charging FO seriously this year, more like=
ly he was grooming for Wimbledon, personally I feel it was a mistake, but h= ey, his decision.

Seriously who comes to FO with 1 match on clay entire season?

Quite possible. Ruud is a man on a mission.

    Very entertaining player.

I was surprised with Djok's level. Didn't know anything, didn't expect anything. Seeing him play like he did, was a pleasant surprise. He hit
the ball, had more winners than Fonzeca, IIRC, and in general didn't
play the waiting game. The old horse is just too flea-bitten at this point.
