get in good with a favored oligarchy is not the better way on an
individual scale.

I think you can see what I'm saying about silently joining up with the
winning side, no matter what. This advice is particular to a large and basically impersonal and anonymous social structure. You really have no identity outside of your friend/relative group (my "tribe" or "posse"),
and so what you're giving away to the rest of society--which is your
value system--is completely meaningless to it--nor do you give a shit
about it, so long as it provides stability and consistency sufficient
for you to analyze and adapt to.

In a smaller, more personal social structure, it's where you can
effectively hang onto your moral structure and demonstrate a personal
stance.

So I guess the result of living in the sort of society as I do is
alienation. And the longer I go thru this, the clearer it becomes that
unless you are a part of the oligarchy, it is the surest way to succeed. Otherwise, you could join the virtue-signalling "protesters" and waste
your finite time/energy beating your head against a wall, like the
pathetic Hassidim.
