• RSS Coach Sacking Competition 2026

    From Futbolmetrix@futbolmetrix@yahoo.com to rec.sport.soccer on Thu Aug 27 18:57:43 2026
    From Newsgroup: rec.sport.soccer

You have 10 points which you can allocate to as many coaches as you
want from the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, German
Bundesliga, Spanish Liga, and French Ligue 1.

Maximum 3 points per coach, decimal points allowed.

Any coach that you nominated and gets sacked (or resigns, voluntarily
or not) between the *day after the deadline* and before December 31,
you get the points. [Note the slight change in rules, no more freebie
points by picking coaches about to be sacked even before the deadline]

If you pick a coach who gets sacked before the deadline, you get your
points back and can allocate them to a different coach.

As usual, there there is a twist:

    - A coach sacked by a team participating in this year's Champions
League group stage: your points are multiplied by 3

    - A coach sacked by a team participating in this year's Europa League
or Conference League group stage: your points are multiplied by 2

    - Any other team: your points are multiplied by 1

Deadline: Sunday, September 20, 11:59pm GMT (last day before the start
of the new extended international break)

    Names I'm considering:
    Spalletti
Gattuso (yes, Lazio have had a good start, but the guy is a pink slip
    magnet)
    De Zerbi (see above)
    Arbeloa
    Sage
    Lampard
    HSV guy

    Still not an official pick.

Not a valid pick, had already been sacked ("by mutual consent") on
September 15. You get your 1.5 points back.

Time to make decisions, and whittle my long list down to a shorter one.
There seem to be more than a few decent coaches (actually decent or at
least perceived to be so - thinking of Eddie Howe, Rudi Garcia, Antonio
Conte, Didier Deschamps, Marcelino, ... ), so clubs might be even more
    trigger happy than usual.

    Michael Carrick (Man United) 1
    Andoni Iraola (Liverpool) 0.5
    Roberto de Zerbi (Spurs) 2
    Matthias Jaissle (Newcastle) 0.5
    Oliver Glasner (Notts. Forest) 0.5

    Claudio Giraldez (Celta) 0.5
    Edin Terzic (Athletic Club) 0.5
    Pelegrino Materazzo (Real Sociedad) 1

    Ancelotti (Lille) 0.5
    Oliveira (Strasbourg) 0.2
    Pantaloni (Nice) 0.2

Lichte (Gladbach) (or does he count since he is interim ?) 0.2 If not eligible add 0.1 to each of the 0.2s above.

    Gattuso (Lazio) 1
    Abate (Torino) 1
    Sarri (Atalanta) 0.4

I'm afraid he does not count (he has also been replaced by Alexander
Blessin). Oliveira and Pantaloni get 0.3.
