Back in one of our discussions about FS rule changes, I once suggested
that we should count points in terms of Champions League appearance
and goals (instead or in addition to NT caps and goals).
milivella shot down that idea on the grounds that we have no way to
know that the Champions League will remain the top club competition in eternity -- maybe one day it will be surpassed by MLS, the Chinese
League, the Saudi Pro League or what not. On the other hand, so
milivella claimed, we can rest assured that international football
will continue to exist.
Given recent developments, could it possibly be that milivella was
wrong?
In brief:
- The Champions League risked failure way before the World Cup (remember
the Super League?).
- Even if some nations secedes from FIFA, they would still play
international matches, right?
So: no, milivella was not wrong. :)
