This is the record setter for dirty play, at least at this WCup. At 2
points I thought they're going to start an actual fistfight. No
surprise actually, as the 2 teams aren't exactly fans of each other.
But the ref should have showed maybe 10 or more cards, not just 2. Same
stupid leniency as in other games.
Argentina looked a bit rougher but England were no saints either.

Otherwise, in as much as this can still be considered football, the 2
teams were more or less equal, no clear chances (no wonder, if any
rounding results in the man brought down, with no foul called). 0 - 0
    at half time.

1 - 0 England min. 50 something, Gordon on the counter, after a great

Now Argentina have to actually play, and they do. England defend

Huge chance for Argentina now, right before the hydration break. Great

    Sorry, it's Martinez, not Fernandez.

Final score, Argentina proves the doubters wrong. They did play
something else than they showed before.
Given how dirty they played in the first half I have my doubts that
this result is deserved, but after they took in the first goal and
started playing seriously, their attacking pressing was quite forceful.
    Tuchel may be at fault too for being too defensive after the goal;
trying to score another one on the counter might have been a better
    tactic.

My $0.05 kind of late. I thought it very weird that Tuchel subbed out Gordon for Konsa so early. I immediately thought, this isn't Mexico where you can sit back and defend... A tactical error on his part, but I can't place all the blame on him. The team just couldn't do more than 70 minutes here. I don't remember the last time I cheered for England, but I did here, given the obvious favouritism toward Arg for the entire tournament. I liked that Arg had to stop playacting and ref bullying when they were down. But the facts are that Eng didn't seem built to last the 90+x minutes. There will be speculation, that the EPL season was too demanding for these players, etc. But they just sat back the last 20+10 minutes, don't expect to win against a team like Arg. All that said, the better team won. The final should be interesting. This is still the least exciting Arg team, to me at least... It will depend on who peaks on Sunday. Both teams are hot, but I feel like the Arg defence is full of holes to be exploited. Spain is learning from this game. In any case, it was interesting to watch this live.

In fairness, they'd find something about him to complain about
even if they had won. It's what the English media do. Deep down
I don't think a German managing their national team sits well
    with them.

The park-the-bus tactic might have been employed too soon but
you still don't leave Enzo Fernandez unmarked on the edge of the
penalty area, the English players should have known all about
his abilities. The second goal should have been saved too. So
sitting back or not, you still have to defend properly and do
the basics... close people down / clear balls.

That's easy to say. And many people say it. I'm not sure. What I can
say is that Argentina, once they were one down and had to play, looked completely different than before. In a good way. Very lively, very
energetic, Messi always knew what to do and did something dangerous.
They had like 5 or 6 good chamces. It's Argentina, they will score 2 of
them if they need. The shot at the first goal was fabulous, Messi's
cross at the second also brilliant. It's not like they didn't see it
coming or they didn't have enough people. They did, the cross was just
so good that the defender, though he tried his best, couldn't reach it
and it got exactly to the intended player who had a too good
    opportunity to miss.
That's basically what Tuchel says too, I read his interview. Once the
argies actually started playing, they were too strong and England had
no response. He didn't want to go defensive but felt he had to.
(Unfortunately, I have to say, again, it's tainted by the dirty way
they played in the first half. It's very much possible, though he
doesn't say it, that Tuchel also didn't want his players to get into
physical duels with the argies who had nothing to lose. Especially
given the way the refs acted throughout this Cup. He had to think at
the final too. So he thought the safest bet over-all is a stonewall
defense. Unfortunately it didn't work. To be clear, this is just my speculation, I'm only saying that I can't trust this result once the
argies played like they did in the first half, and were allowed to by
    the ref.)

And yes, though there were no blatant goal-changing ref errors this
time, Argentina was clearly favored by this manner of officiating.
Also, the sending off of Embolo. It was correct but definitely against
the VAR protocol, there was no mistaken identity there for sure. You
have to wonder, would it still have been called if it had been the
    other way around ?

Anyway, the good part is that now Spain knows what to expect. :) They
won't be taken by surprise like England. Though I'm sure Argentina
saved the best for them, but it works both ways. We'll see on Sunday.
