    Getting the thread started.

Spain without Nico Williams. They have been far from impressive in the
WC so far, let's see if they can get their first knockout round win
    since 2010.

And back then they were all 1-0 IIRC

So they haven't *conceded* a goal in a World Cup knockout match since
2006 (was it Zidane or Henry who got the third goal in the QF?)

They conceded against Russia in 2018.

So far this went as expected, at least we managed to
    keep the first quarter scoreless.

Lamine vs Laimer the key duel.

Thanks for the correction. Still, one goal conceded in 6 knockout
    matches is not bad.

Lamine vs Laimer the key duel.

Cucurella goal waved off for Arsenalballing. Then Oyarzabal forces a
    fine save from A. Schlager.

1 - 0 Spain. excellent goal by Oyazabal, after a good collective move
    by Spain.

I watched the last 15 minutes, the way Spain play it should end 3 or 4
    to 0.

And now Oyarzabal makes it count. 1-0 (pending VAR check?)

I was just about to write that Austria were not closing spaces well
enough, and the Spain goal was in the air.

A bit too much hacking by Austria. The ref should show some cards.

    And Schlager vs Spain.

Keeps it at 1-0 with a double save: first getting his fingertips to an
Alex Baena free-kick that hit the bar (I actually don't think that he
did enough to change the trajectory of the ball, but still counts as a
save), and then denying Yamal from close range on the ensuing rebound.

2 other very good chances for Spain in the closing minutes of the first
half, a crossbar and then Schlager in extremis blocks Yamal. Somehow
Austria manage to reach the break just one down.

Getting out of the second quarter without conceding
was way too much too ask.

Lamine vs Laimer the key duel.

It was telling that the goal they scored came from the
other side. Posch and his broken jaw shouldnrCOt really
be on the pitch but there are few alternatives.

Unless something major changes at half-time, and I
canrCOt see that happening, this will end as predicted just
    like France-Sweden.

Lame shot by Oyazabal. He really should have done bettter from that
    position.

Pedro Porro makes it 2-0 just before the end of the third quarter.
Someone lost Dani Olmo in the build-up and the bad positioning
cascaded from there allowing Spain an easy route to goal.

Much better from Spain. I still think they may be vulnerable to a team
that can really shut down the spaces. Austria was not it.
