Terrible defending by Ingerlund, leaving Cipenga wide open on the left
hand side, and his sharp shot beats Pickford at the near post.

Very true, and Pickford was very kindly getting out of the way at the
later near-post shot that hit the post and dribbled out.

I am not convinced that the ref was wrong about the penalty. Kane did
contact the keeper's hand, but it looked to me as if that hand was
perfectly still when he did. Kane could have felt it and dived. He
wasn't going to reach the ball again.

End of the third quarter, and England fans on the stands look very
    worried. They should be.

Harry Kane gets just enough separation from his defender to drive a
precise header in the bottom corner. 1-1

To not give the pen went totally against the grain of
what VAR decisions usually have been like all around
the world, but I didnrCOt mind it one bit.

    Ciao,

WasnrCOt even that precise, Mpasi almost had it.

Fully deserved in my view though.
    Shades of Brazil v Japan.

And there it is, England 2-1 at the 85'. Btw, Kane already has 13 World
    Cup goals?

Shades turning into fully-formed images. Kane makes it two with a
great finish courtesy of Pirlo-style no-look pass from Anthony Gordon,
after Bellingham had wasted a 1v1.

Kane now reaches Haaland on 5 goals, one behind Mbappe and Messi.

Wissa has a chance to tie it with a free-kick from a perfect position
in the last minute of injury time, but can't get the ball to drop fast
enough (and Pickford probably had it covered).

Full time. Ingerlund lives to fight another day, but I think they'll
be the underdogs at the Azteca.

You can't know. Nothing that's happened so far is any indication for
how a game between 2 strong teams will look like. Mexico are at home,
that's true, but England is England.

So far there's been just one significant upset, that of Germany, but I
won't call it major because of Germany being what it is now. Holland
knocked out by Morocco was expected. Everything else is as anticipated,
some games just took a little longer to decide.
