  • (R) WC 2026 Group A Finale

    Czechia 0-3 Mexico
    South Africa 1-0 South Korea

    Easy enough win for Mexico, based on what I saw of it (second half only, though to be fair the first half ended 0-0). With the game 0-2 and under control, Javier Aguirre fielded Guillermo Ochoa for the last 15 minutes,
    so that he could take on the field on his 6th World Cup. Nice gesture, I thought, and the crowd seemed happy with it too.

    Mexico finishes at the top of the group, with 3 wins and 3 clean sheets.
    They now await a third placed team from groups C/E/F/H/I. Czechia are eliminated.

    I didn't watch South Africa vs South Korea. The outcome surprises me,
    based on what I saw from both over the tournament. South Africa gets
    past the group stage for the first time ever, and will face Canada in Inglewood on June 28th. South Korea atm is 4th on the "best thirds"
    table, with 3 points and a -1 GD.
