    A collateral effect of today's results:

    Bosnia are qualified, because they can't be overtaken by third place
    teams of groups A (finished), C (finished), I (Senegal and Iraq can't
    reach 4 points) and D (Paraguay and Australia can't both overtake them
    with a draw because of Paraguay's GD).

    Nice.

    On the other hand, Scotland's situation is now pretty dire. I have
    them at only 28% to advance, and that must be an upper bound, as it
    doesn't take into account teams' incentives to target 4 points, or 3
    points and a better GD than Scotland. I would put their real chances
    at somewhere between 15 and 20 percent.

    Another thing determined by yesterday's results:

    Since:
    - 3rd of B is guaranteed to qualify;
    - 3rd of C can't qualify if 3rd of A doesn't;
    only 246 of the original 495 3rd place qualifiers permutations are
    still possible.
    In 245 of them, Bosnia play USA. In the other one (BEGHIJKL), they
    play Germany (and USA play Senegal or Iraq).

    Tchau!

    I agree with Steve Clarke - they're going home.

    And if the leader of the SophCon says that, it must be right!

    Seriously, for Scotland to survive, it needs any 4 of the following
    things to happen:

    - Germany to not lose to Ecuador
    - Sweden to lose to Japan by 4 goals or more
    - Paraguay to lose to Australia by two goals or more
    - Senegal to not beat Iraq
    - Spain to beat Uruguay
    - Egypt to beat Iran
    - Ghana to beat Croatia by at least 3 goals
    - DR Congo to not beat Uzbekistan
    - Austria to beat Algeria by at least two goals

    Individually, some of these events are somewhat likely, some less so.
    But Scotland needs four of them. It just seems very tough.

    Imagine going out in qualification against CZE. Must be humiliating.
    It's even worse than going out against Scotland.
