Sure Argentina with Messi plays on Fox during primetime (not on CTV
though) but Austria vs Jordan cant even make it on for Midnight when
they probably just play Wrestling or Carlston Tucker repeats.
And yes Messi is starting.
And scoring too. One called back, but this one counts. Argentina
leads 1-0 at the 16th minute.
60th minute, Messi scores Argentina's second. 2-0 at Arrowhead
Stadium. Messi's 15th World Cup goal, matching Ronaldo and one goal
short of Miroslav Klose
Another one by Messi. 3-0 now, and Lionel matches Klose's 16 World Cup goals.
And so it ends. Messi writes history in Kansas City as Argentina ends
Conmebol plight emphatically, with a deserved win over a brave but
overwhelmed Algeria.
Another player who'll probably match and/or surpass Klose's record is
Kylian Mbapp|-, who is on 14 WC goals after his brace against Senegal.
This could become an interesting duel, as Mbapp|- and Messi try to
overcome each other over this World Cup.
Another point: I just learned that the Algerian goalkeeper, Luca Zidane,
is indeed Zinedine's son. When someone mentioned this in the broadcast I thought they were joking, but no. In 1982 and 1986 Algeria did have a
Zidane on their squad (Djamel), with no relation with ZZ, though.
Luca not only is Zinedine's son, he also seems to be Lionel's fan.
Rather poor game by him, seemingly having gone with soft hands in
Argentina's first goal and rebounding a long distance shot right on
Messi's way for the second. Credit be given to him that he indeed could
not have stopped the third.
Overall a solid debut by Argentina, I thought, which should have been
good for their morale too. Algeria will have to gather themselves for
Jordan and Austria and hope that their goal difference hasn't gone too
deeply the wrong way.
Best regards,
