    What to do
    -----------

Look at the fixtures below: do you play home or away? In any case:
remember that it's single-leg, and a draw qualifies the team with the
    X on its side.

    *Home*
    - Before Wednesday 2026-04-15, 23:59 GMT
    - Pick one team from each of the two matches.

    *Away*
    - After Wednesday (or even sooner, if the home player has picked his
teams) and before kickoff of the first match
    - Pick one of the teams not picked by your opponent (if he hasn't
picked any team, you have free choice)
    - Their opponents will represent your opponent

*ATTENTION: NEW RULE*: If the away player doesn't pick any team before
his/her deadline, the home player will be represented by the team that
achieves the best outcome out of his/her two picked teams.
If the home player doesn't pick any team before his deadline, the away
player can pick two teams (one from each match), and he/she will be
represented by the team that achieves the best outcome out of his/her
two picked teams.. If nobody picks a team, teams are assigned
    randomly.)

We go to Belgium, Poland, Austria and their competitive leagues, as
well as Portugal for the Lisbon derby.

In the last few seasons, I have regularly alternated between weeks
with top-5 leagues and weeks with leagues ranked 6-10 (roughly) in
    choosing the Cup fixtures.

This season there's a lot of talk about the crazy competitiveness of
the Polish league, so I wanted to go there. My next preference was
Scotland, but the league is apparently off next week. Austria and
Belgium also look quite competitive, and I went POrtugal just so that
I could include the Lisbon derby.

I should have known this would be coming. Anyway, average
TransferMarkt value of some select European and South American leagues
    (current UEFA coefficient in parentheses):

    Portugal (6) 3.83m
    Netherlands (7) 2.64m
    Belgium (8) 2.33m
    Turkey (9) 2.68m
    Czechia (10) 0.89m

    Norway (14) 0.82m
    Cyprus (15) 0.38m
    Switzerland (16) 1.12m
    Austria (17) 1.05m

    Brazil 2.93m: solidly a 6-9 league
    Argentina 1.06m: somewhere between 10 and 17

The other South Americans are quite clearly outside the top 15.
    Chile 0.38m
    Paraguay 0.36m
    Uruguay 0.36m

Mexico (1.95m) and USA (1.62m) would have a stronger case for being in
the top 10 than Argentina and the other South Americans.

Not everything, but pretty highly correlated.

Anyway why didn't you pick the Brazilian League then?

We already did two SA leagues in the League, seemed fair to give a bit
more space to the neglected Europeans.

More generally, I tend to prefer leagues where the schedule is more predictable, which tends to be the case more often (not always!) in
Europe. (Brasileirao seems to have improved in that regard, though)
