the best Argentinean teams ever?
Independiente 1972-75 (or 1971-75 or whatever) have got to be
the leading candidate.
Boca Juniors 2000-03 and River Plate's team of the 1940s are
other candidates.
Then of course there's Independiente 1963-65 and Independiente 1983-84.
Anyway what do yous think?
In your other thread Boca 2000-2003 and River 1996-2000 were
brought up, so I guess they belong here as well. Di Stefano's La Maquina is such an obvious candidate too.
I would mention V|-lez Sarsfield from the mid-90's too (let's
make it 1993-1998), as it was their golden period. On the
players front, Jose Luis Chilavert is on a class of his own,
though they did have other good players as well, plus they were
coached by Carlos Bianchi (who is still their alltime top
goalscorer, according to Wikipedia). In 1994 they won Copa
Libertadores against Tel|- Santana's all-conquering S|uo Paulo
side of the 90's at the Morumbi, then went on to beat Capello's
Milan in the Intercontinental Cup. That, plus 4 of their 11
league titles and all sorts of South American minor cups
(Supercopa, Recopa, etc) made of that a very prolific period
for them.
Now, the above may or may not be a good inclusion, since I'm
limiting myself to Argentinian club sides that I have seen
playing. I figure that surely we must have teams from the likes
of San Lorenzo, Racing or Estudiantes de La Plata (for example),
and indeed more teams from River, Boca and Independiente, but I
don't know enough to vote on which ones.

Just having a look at past winners of the Copa Libertadores and
the Argentinian Championship, I'd suggest Estudiantes 1968-70,
Boca Juniors 1977-79...Lomas Athletic Club 1893-98? They won 5
League Championships in 6 years. Alumni Athletic Club 1906-11?
They achieved that too and were runners-up in the year they
didn't win it. Are Alumni Athletic Club the same team as Alumin
Football Team? If so, they were dominant for a few years before
that too. Racing Club also won 5 out of 6 Argentinean
Championships between 1915 and 1919.
Then there was Independiente 1926 who won the League without
losing a single match. River Plate 1952-57 also won 5 League Championships in 6 years; and of course as already mentioned,
River also had a great team from 1941-47.
Oh apparently Racing Club won 6 in a row from 1913-18.
I can't find any other particularly dominant teams.
Which of those should we include?
Apparently there were 2 Argentinian Championships in 1913 and 1914;
1 run by a Federaci||n, and 1 run by an Asociaci||n. Racing Club won
the 1 run by the Asociaci||n in both of those years; so that would
explain where the RSSSF Archive get 6 years in a row from.
So who have we got then? And how strong was the opposition several
decades ago?
Independiente 1972-75
Boca Juniors 2000-03
Independiente 1963-65
River Plate 1996-2000
V|-lez Sarsfield 1993-98
River Plate 1941-47
Estudiantes 1968-70
Boca Juniors 1977-79
I'm unsure about the others:
Independiente 1983-84
If we're going to include them I suppose it's only fair to include
Racing Club 1966-67
Argentinos Juniors 1984-85 (apparently they won 2 League Champonships,
1 Copa Libertadores, and they came within a penalty shoot-out of being
World Champions)
River Plate 1985-86
Alumni Athletic Club 1905-11 (I think they are the same team as Alumni football team, and they were dominant for a few years before that too
so I don't know what years to include)
Racing Club 1913-19
And I'm even less sure about the others:
Lomas Athletic Club 1893-98
River Plate 1952-57
Independiente 1926
Any other candidates for a Top 10?
How should we rank them?

OK, I'll attempt to rank them. Here's my proposal for our Top 10:
1 Independiente 1972-75
2 Boca Juniors 2000-03
3 River Plate 1941-47
4 V|-lez Sarsfield 1993-98
5 Boca Juniors 1977-79
6 Independiente 1963-65
7 River Plate 1996-2000
8 Estudiantes 1968-70
9 Independiente 1983-84
10 River Plate 1985-86
How's that looking?
